Llandow - July 2003
A much appreciated track day at this circuit we have frequented for over 12 years but have been priced out over the past few.During this time the track has been greatly improved giving a much better surface.
After a briefing we were split into 3 groups based on engine size and previous track experience. This gave those who had never driven on a circuit a gentle introduction allowing them to settle in before having to worry about looking out for much faster cars & drivers. A very enjoyable morning was spent taking it in turns to go out for a play.
After a stop for lunch the Marshals gave us an open pit lane so everybody with anything could go on the track this made things all the more interesting especially as we had cars from 1600cc up to 3.5ltr V8 Phaetons. This gave the opportunity for people to observe other drivers styles and lines in and out of the corners. It must be said there were some interesting styles going on..... Not necessarily the quickest way round a corner but definitely the most fun seemed to be a favourite style.
The day was an outstanding success even with minor mishaps and trouser filling moments. Casualties consisted of a couple of clutches playing up, a Melos engine deciding to smoke the place out (We suspect a dead set of rings but time will tell), popped head gasket, a very worn set of tyres, a leaking header tank, a broken engine mount, a broken exhaust manifold and a broken seat.
After a long days exhausting fun it was back to the campsite to set up the BBQ for good food & alcohol, all in all the perfect end to a perfect day. All in all it was a very successful event with many people asking when the next one was and thanking those who put the effort into organizing it. We will aim not to disappoint and try to repeat the day next year.
